Longbranch is a collaboration between actor Matthew McConaughey, Wild Turkey’s creative director since 2016, and Wild Turkey master distiller Eddie Russell. It’s an eight-year-old Wild Turkey Kentucky straight bourbon, small batch, refined with Texas mesquite and oak charcoals to deepen flavor and complexity. It’s bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV), softer than Wild Turkey’s 101, so it’s a smooth, approachable pour.

It was the first Wild Turkey product to carry a signature other than the Russell family’s. McConaughey and Russell spent two years testing and swapping notes to arrive at the two-step charcoal method. The name Longbranch was inspired by “the friends that form the longest branches of our family trees,” a nod to the Kentucky and Texas roots they share.

How Longbranch Is Made

Longbranch begins with Wild Turkey’s traditional mash bill, about 75% corn, 13% rye, and 12% malted barley, aged eight years in new charred oak at the Wild Turkey Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Before bottling, the bourbon goes through a proprietary two-step charcoal refinement: first through charcoal from American white oak, then through charcoal from Texas mesquite wood. The mesquite adds a light, smoky sweetness and a smoother feel. It’s brought to 86 proof for bottling.
